Desert MARPAT and Woodland MARPAT
The Marine Corps tapes are embroidered on MARPAT, the Marine Corps camouflage pattern, in two published patterns. Desert MARPAT carries NSN 8455-01-475-5316 and Woodland MARPAT carries NSN 8455-01-475-5330.

Every Marine tape finishes at 7 inches long and 1 inch tall. That is two inches longer than the 5 inch Air Force OCP tapes embroidered at the same plant.

The embroidery is done in the Military Embroidery department, which runs embroidery machines alongside specialized fusing and velcro equipment and hires operators who have usable vision. Consistent thread color across a lot is what makes tapes worn by one unit match, and that is a matter of the machine setup and the operator, not of luck. The Marine Corps tapes are made for DLA Troop Support in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Lions Industries has supplied them since 1992, ten years before the Air Force tapes and tags began in 2002. Among the plant's embroidered and engraved ID products, this is the longest-running.
The work is done at 4126 Berkeley Ave in Kinston, North Carolina, under the Javits-Wagner-O'Day Act, which requires competitive quality and price standards, at a plant with ISO 9001:2015 certification, certificate no.
