The JWOD work, the plant and the jobs

People who are blind or visually impaired, along with employees who have other serious disabilities. They work in the Textiles department (sewing, manual and automated machine work) and the Military Embroidery department (embroidery machines and specialized fusing and velcro equipment), at 4126 Berkeley Ave in Kinston, NC.

Most of the products are sold to the Federal Government under the Javits-Wagner-O'Day Act: cloth mailing bags and manual cases for the General Services Administration, cleaning swabs for DLA Land & Maritime, Air Force tapes and name tags for Lackland AFB, Marine Corps tapes for DLA Troop Support and skid boards for DLA Aviation.

The Act lets federal work be assigned to nonprofit agencies that employ people who are blind, through National Industries for the Blind and the AbilityOne Program. It also requires those agencies to meet competitive quality and price standards. Lions Industries has met them, and holds ISO 9001:2015 certification, certificate no. A-702.
